It is always wonderful when independent watch brands collaborate to achieve the finest outcomes. The newest Armin Strom Pure Resonance Salmon Special Edition watch is a perfect example. The vintage-inspired salmon dial is handcrafted by master artisan  Kari Voutilainen. The new watch follows the Sky Blue dial and the green dial versions previously made in the same partnership between the two indies.

One of the most precise watches, the Pure Resonance is a deft blend of vintage aesthetics and contemporary (almost futuristic looking) watchmaking. In true Armin Strom style, the sophisticated look of the  watch is derived from expert open worked skeletonization, minimalism and a genius spark of unique color.

Armin Strom Pure Resonance Salmon Aesthetics

The small offset hour/minute dial and the smaller overlapping seconds subsidiary dial of the Armin Strom Pure Resonance Salmon Special Edition are hand guilloche’ by Voutilainen in his very distinctive and masterful style.  Using a traditional manual rose-engine lathe, he achieves a truly lavish look. The hour and minutes are read off of Roman numerals and a classic railroad track flange. The finishing on the dials features a lacquered enamel that is then hand patterned so that each is unique. The luster and brilliance of the salmon color against the metal mainplate and mechanics is breathtaking. The 42mm watch is crafted in stainless steel.

Armin Strom Pure Resonance Salmon Special Edition Mechanics

Like the previous models of the Pure Resonance, the Salmon version is all about precision thanks to the synchronization of two balance wheels that oscillate in opposite directions at the same time. So difficult to achieve, this feat is rarely incorporated into timepieces by brands.  The Armin Strom manufacture 206-part Caliber ARF 16, though, is equipped with the patented Resonance Clutch Spring that is the result of years of intense research – spearheaded by watchmaker and co-owner of the brand, Claude Greisler.

The looks of the hand guilloche’ dial by Voutilainen rival the complex mechanics and patented resonance system.

To accomplish its task, the system connects two hairsprings for the fastest and most regular resonance – offering exceptional chronometric stability. The patented technology is visible from the dial side – making heads turn when people see it in action. The manually wound watch offers 48 hours of power reserve. Sadly, just five pieces will be made, each retailing for $60,000.
