Last week in New York City’s Meatpacking district — which is fast becoming a trendy hot spot for luxury goods — Tudor officially opened its first-ever USA boutique and the famed David Beckham was there to celebrate. Legendary in status thanks to his incredible soccer abilities, business acumen and all-round “nice guy” attitude, Beckham spent the night mingling, talking and laughing with Tudor collectors and fans at the dynamite-looking store. The vibe at the event, and at the store in general, was light, easy, fun and lively. In fact, it may well have been one of the best boutique opening events I have attended in a while. (Of course, in all fairness, I haven’t attended many since Covid’s lockdowns made it nearly impossible to have any openings.) Also, having the brand’s “Born to Dare” ambassador there and mingling was a great asset.

Tudor opens in the Meatpacking district of New York.

The 4,000-square-foot boutique is Tudor’s first-ever store in America and is operated by Bucherer/Tourneau, which just marked its 57th street store reopening with big fanfare just over a month ago. The Tudor store, attached to the Rolex boutique, boasts a wall of New York City skyline opposite the Tudor logo — and features a highly industrial appeal (thanks to brick walls and metal fixtures) that perfectly reflects the vibe of that location. The store is stocked with Tudor sport, diving and heritage-inspired watches, as well as with many of the limited edition Black Bay pieces that men and women alike are drawn to. It also is the only place in America, where the Black Bay Fifty-Eight Bronze Boutique Edition watch will be sold.

Additionally, the boutique will carry the newest Pelagos FXD  just introduced to the world this week. Since joining forces with the French Navy earlier this year to reaffirm its relationship that dates back to 1956, Tudor unveils the Pelagos FXD, inspired by a piece from the past, as a result of this collaboration.

The Pelagos FXD boasts extra robust  fixed strap bars on the case  — a revival of the historic previous collaborative watch. The highly technical professional instrument, though, is a great combination of power and aesthetics. The 42mm satin-brushed titanium watch meets a unique set of specifications developed in conjunction with the French Navy’s combat swimmers, the prestigious Commando Hubert. The case back is even engraved with the Marine nationale (French Navy) logo and the inscription “M.N.21” (Marine nationale 2021), inspired by the original engravings of the 1970s and ’80s.

The watch, with striking bidirectional rotating titanium bezel with blue ceramic insert and Super-LumiNova indications, is powered by the Manufacture Calibre MT5602, certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), with a silicon balance spring and 70 hours of power reserve. The Snowflake hands offer a vintage appeal, as does the one-piece fabric strap. The watch is also sod with a rubber strap, too. Water resistant to 200 meters, it retails for $3,900.
