Hublot’s Newest Big Bang Is a Technicolor Tribute to Miami

Hublot wants to take you to Miami.

The Swiss watchmaker just unveiled a timepiece inspired by the “electric” Floridian metropolis. The new Big Bang Unico Magic City, which fittingly debuted during Miami’s renowned Art and Design week, takes cues from the vibrant hues showcased across the city. Everything from sunsets on the beach to the graffiti on the streets is reflected in the piece with bold pops of color.

“This extraordinary watch is a celebration of Miami’s pulsating rhythm and serves as a testament to Hublot’s commitment to crafting unique timepieces that reflect the spirit of the exciting locales they draw inspiration from,” Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe said in a statement.

At the heart of the newcomer lies Hublot’s in-house Unico HUB128. Described as an “open heart,” the movement has a striking skeletonized design and a power reserve of 72 hours. The automatic chronograph also sports a double coupling system and a column wheel from the dial side. Construction of the 354 components has been simplified as much as possible to improve reliability and robustness, according to Hublot.

Not to be outdone, the open-worked matte-black dial features a striking ombre sunset motif that subtly fades from one shade to another to remind you of the days that turned into nights on South Beach. It is housed under a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment.

The sleek 42 mm case is crafted from black ceramic that has been micro-blasted and polished for additional luster. Hublot says the lightweight and hypoallergenic material offtakes body temperature to ensure perfect comfort on the wrist. The watch is also water resistant to 100 meters, so you don’t need to worry when swimming or sunning in Miami.

To top it off, the limited edition comes with two straps: classic black rubber and a vivid, multi-color calf leather design that evokes the art-deco aesthetic and ‘80s new-wave style.

Only a few daring collectors will be able to acquire the Magic City, too. The watch is limited to just 35 examples and can be purchased at Hublot’s two Miami boutiques (Miami Design District and Bal Harbour Shops) or online. It will set you back $24,700. Too garish? Hublot also unveiled a gray version of the Big Bang this past June that sports a subtle titanium case and monochrome colorway.
